If you think that the Federal government hasn’t been hard at work helping Americans, you haven’t noticed some of the best work that they have done recently. Most importantly, this includes designating July 12th “Collector Car Appreciation Day”. All tongue-in-cheek comments aside though, the US Senate has actually passed a resolution which seeks to recognize the important role that classic auto collection has in American culture. The end result was this appreciation day.
As your Colorado Springs body shop, we certainly appreciate car collectors and have quite a few in our midst. There’s just nothing quite like restoring an old vehicle to its former glory (and beyond!) That’s why Black & White Auto offers professional auto detailing and restoration services to help you get your old vehicle looking its best again.
We also love to simply talk shop with our customers, so if you have any automotive questions about your old vehicle or how to repair/update a certain part of a vintage vehicle, don’t hesitate to drop in and pick our minds. Our professional technicians have decades of service among them and would be happy to help you get your older vehicle looking like new. That’s what our passion is here at the body shop.
For more information about events that are designed to recognize the new Collector Car Appreciation Day, visit semasan.com. There are a number of different events and car shows that will be featuring all kinds of amazing classic and vintage restored vehicles.
As the US Senate recognizes car collection and the appreciation of classic automobiles, we hope that we can continue to help collectors restore their vehicles far into the future. The vintage automobiles of the 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond were special machines in their own right and their designs can hold up to any of the newest styles of today. Hopefully, we can do our part in auto detailing and restoring these old vehicles to keep them on the road for many years to come.
There will soon be a new tool which will allow vehicle owners to more easily see when their vehicles have been recalled due to a safety defect. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is going to be implementing a database which will allow car owners to quickly and simply determine whether their vehicle has been recalled or received a repair as a result of a previous manufacturer recall.
As your local auto repair company, Black & White Auto Body wants to make sure that all of our customers, and all of those we know and love in Colorado Springs, have the most accurate information about consumer recalls that could affect the safety of driving your vehicle. That’s why we’re excited to bring you this news. The new database is part of a bill funding additional highway spending that was passed into law last year. The bill requires that the new online tool be completed and available for public consumption by later this year in the beginning of October.
The online website which will make available the new tool to determine whether your vehicle has been subject to a manufacturer recall or not will be called safercar.gov and it will enable consumers to identify whether their car has been recalled or has been subject to other safety concerns by searching via the vehicle VIN number. This can have a significant impact on the collision repair industry as well because it means that more people will be able to identify potential defects more quickly than before and get them fixed at their local auto repair shop.
Black & White Auto Body certainly welcomes any development that can improve the safety of drivers and help them to identify potential defects in their cars earlier so that they can be repaired by a qualified technician (at the manufacturer’s expense). Some manufacturers have been complaining about the new program and saying that it will be too costly, but the benefits could very well outweigh the costs if it means that it saves even a single life from a defective vehicle malfunction. We’d much rather be doing pre-emptive repairs on vehicles that need them, than doing a collision repair after a potentially dangerous accident.
‘Fender Bender’ recently reported that Toyota was issued the highest number of US patents in 2012 with nearly 1,500 different patents for new technologies. Although, the popular Japanese automaker may have had the most patents, many of the other major carmakers were not far behind. In fact, innovations driven by fierce competition and impressive technology gains continue to reshape the field of automobile development and they have also had significant impacts on the collision repair industry as well.
As a successful body shop in Colorado Springs that tries to stay abreast of all the new developments in car technology, Black & White Auto Body always is trying to stay up on new technologies that may improve the safety and enjoyment of driving, while also changing the way that we do business as an auto repairs shop.

The patents awarded to automakers like Toyota can significantly the safety and convenience of driving automobiles into the future. This also impacts the way your favorite body shop does business. Technologies like vehicle-to-vehicle communication devices and increased visibility windshields will not only make it easier and more enjoyable for you to drive your new car, they will also very likely impact the way we do business as an auto repairs shop. That’s why it’s important to make sure that all of our technicians are always aware of the new technologies coming down the pipe.
In the end, it helps us do our jobs better if we are better informed and that’s why we make sure to be on the cutting edge as a body shop, and as your number one source for auto expertise in Colorado Springs.
Summertime is here, and with it the normal heat and plentiful sunshine that can put extra stress on your vehicle while driving. To add to this stress, Americans typically drive farther and longer in the summertime due to taking more short trips and adding in the seasonal long roadtrip. All of this together means that your vehicle could be seeing more duty and also receiving more of a workload. What does that mean for you? It means that it’s doubly important to make sure that your car is well-maintained to avoid an unnecessary auto body repair.
Car maintenance has many components and some things are more important than others, but today we’re going to spotlight a few points that you’ll want to keep an eye on in order to ensure that your car is running smoothly all the way through those summer months. Because, nobody wants to break down in the middle of nowhere 3 hours into your big summer trip to the beach.
One of the first things that you should do to prepare your car for the summer is to de-winterize your vehicle. Remove any salt, sand or snow shovel that is adding unnecessary weight and swap out any heavier snow tires for lighter ones. This will save you money by increasing your fuel economy. It’s also important to degunk your undercarriage especially if you live somewhere with lots of snow and road salt (i.e. Colorado). Failure to do this could reduce your engine’s effectiveness at removing heat from the block and put more stress on it.
After you’ve gotten the de-winterization out of the way, its time to move on to the more conventional auto maintenance. At your Colorado Springs auto repair shop, we often notice that tires are a somewhat neglected part of the vehicle. But, they are very important. Make sure that you have the right tires and that they have adequate tread left on them. Also make sure they are inflated to the proper pressure (you can find this by looking in your owner’s manual or checking the side of the tire itself). This will increase your fuel economy as well.
Lastly, make sure to check all of your fluids (this includes transmission fluid, differential, power steering, windshield and brake fluid). They should all be clean and topped off before your next road trip. If you want, you are more than welcome to bring your vehicle into Black & White Auto Body, your Colorado Springs auto repair destination, for a free check up. We’ll let you know if you need any little tweaks or basic maintenance and also if your vehicle requires a more extensive auto body repair.

There are few things connected to your engine that can have such a profound impact on its performance and gas mileage as the air filter can. That’s why it is important to keep your air filter clean of debris so that your engine can literally breath more easily. What? You didn’t know that engines need to breathe in order to operate correctly? Well, they do. Clean cool air is essential for the combustion process which drives all car engines to work effectively. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you keep your air filter cleaned of debris. Otherwise your engine will be struggling to give you enough power and your gas mileage will be significantly degraded as well.
The good news is that you can get your air filter replaced for a relatively low cost, and we do it right here at the body shop at Black & White Auto Body. Just bring your car on by and we’ll make sure to get your new air filter installed so that your engine can breathe easy. While your car is in the shop, we can also give it a full diagnostic to make sure that we diagnose and fix any needed auto repairs as well.
How often do you need to replace your air filter? Well, like most questions that have to do with automobiles, that answer will depend on how often (and how hard) you drive your vehicle. But, a good rule of thumb is to make sure that you get your air filter replaced (or at least checked) every other time you come in to get your oil changed. Oh, and by the way. If you happened to need an oil change, we can definitely help you out there as well.
At Black & White Auto Body, we have a number of employees who are really passionate about automotive performance, and there aren’t many things more tragic than a dirty air filter. Having a dirty filter can not only kill performance and decrease gas mileage, it can also result in your engine having to work harder just to get by. That means that you could be causing stress which could lead to potentially expensive auto repairs down the road. So, make sure you bring your vehicle into the body shop for a new air filter today. Your engine will thank you.
Most of us enjoy our cars best when they are clean and shiny and we can show them off. So, what is the best car wash experience? Some people say washing your car by hand is best, but that can be time consuming and can you really get the same level of clean that you can at a professional car wash or even one of those automated car washes? That’s debatable. In the end the answer comes down to how well you are able to clean your car on your own.
If you are looking for the best car wash experience, you have a number of options to choose from. Just remember, that if you are really trying to make your car stand out and look its best, you should bring it to Black & White Auto Body, your Colorado Springs body shop, for a professional auto detailing. Nothing else will make your car’s interior and exterior really pop like a professional detailing job.
But, if you are looking for something a little less comprehensive, you can select from automated car washes (which only clean the exterior), self service car washes (which provide soap, waxes and high pressure hoses but require you to clean your own vehicle) and full-service car washes that provide a more effective automated cleaning service, plus a manual interior service (but which are usually more costly).
At Black & White, your Colorado Springs body shop, we’re partial to the manual/by hand cleaning. We don’t think that anything else can really measure up to the clean that you get from a good manual cleaning, especially from a professional. Of course, if you want to go the extra mile and get the best clean that you can get for your vehicle, our auto detailing services simply can’t be beat. We don’t mean to boast, but we’re pretty proud of our services and the feedback that we get from customers at our Colorado Springs body shop.
So, next time you want your car to really shine, bring it in for a professional auto detailing. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
A cool practice that has started to catch on is that of a local auto repair shop donating their time and energy into refurbishing and repairing an old car and then donating that vehicle to a needy family in the area. This practice has been adopted by at least a half dozen body shops across the US as the businesses look to give back to the community for all that they have received. There are always a variety of worthy causes and charities which can be donated to, but using the skills of the technicians at a body shop in order to rebuild and repair an older vehicle is an even better way to showcase the skills of local auto repair technicians.
The body shop that undertakes this type of donation is not only showcasing the skills in auto repair and auto detailing of its technicians, it is letting them do what they do best and donate it to a good cause. Not only are these cars going to help those who have fallen on hard times or who need a little extra help to get by, they are also keeping old vehicles out the junkyard by recycling the parts and putting a little labor into the car in order to make it as good as new.
Recycling these old vehicles and bringing them back with the skills of the technicians at the body shop is a great way for everyone involved to benefit from the situation. The local auto repair shop gets to showcase the amazing skills of its technicians while they also get to help out a family in need. And, of course, the family gets a free car!
These cars are given a new life and a needy family is given a set of wheels that can help them more easily get to work, transport the kids or run errands. In many areas of the US, a car is an essential thing to have. That’s why it is so important and so great that programs like this exist. It’s just an overall great way for a body shop to give back to the community and a positive experience for everyone.
In this news recap, we discuss the upcoming I-CAR Technology Conference which has just released a list of its speakers. I-CAR is a leading organization when it comes to the collision repair industry and this upcoming conference portends to display some of the cutting edge technology and processes that are coming down the pipe for the auto repairs industry. The I-CAR Technology Conference will run from July 24-26 in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to seminars and presentations by different vendors there will be a number of panelists who will discuss the evolving nature of vehicle technology and how it affects the collision repair industry.
The conference will feature a number of panelists making this discussion, including the Technical Director of I-CAR, Jason Baratanen, the President of Pride Collision Centers, Randy Stabler, the Collision Program & Equipment Specialist for Audio of America, Mark Allen and the Assistant Vice President for the Loss Center of Excellence at USAA, James Spears. With the discussion surrounding the technological innovations that are coming up and how they can affect the collision repair industry, it should be a very interesting discussion for all of the auto repair businesses who want to make sure that they stay on the cutting edge.
Speaking of car technology, Tesla Motors has announced that it has plans to put away one of the primary criticisms and worries about all-electric cars (which the company exclusively manufactures) by investing in a quick changing battery pack that could allow a car owner to swap a dead battery for a new one in much less time than it would take that car owner to full charge the depleted battery pack.
The time that it takes these cars to charge is one of the primary concerns of consumers along with range and affordability and these three items are the largest obstacles holding products like the vehicles that Tesla Motors produces from becoming more popular to the mainstream. Tesla Motors still has only a tiny share of the automobile market, though it has caught the attention of many with its cutting edge electric vehicles.
The collision repair implications of dealing with electric vehicles as opposed to the traditional gas-powered vehicles is another thing that might become relevant as these cars are adopted in larger numbers. It may very well be one of the topics that is discussed at the upcoming I-CAR Technology Conference as how these new technologies will affect auto repairs remains an important item for collision repair shops to determine.
